Masters in Euro-Mediterranean Partnership Studies

The Euro-Mediterranean Partnership, launched by the Barcelona Conference (November 1995) and established by the Conferences of the Euro-Med Ministers of Foreign Affairs held in Malta (1997) and Stuttgart (1999), has started a wide programme of co-operation between the countries of the Mediterranean area and the European Union. The future of such co-operation relies upon experts and professionals who know very well the social, economic, juridical and political facts and processes of the countries opening into the Mediterranean Sea. A sound knowledge of the problems shared by all the Mediterranean countries and the European Union is required to carry out the Partnership programme.
The Masters in Euro-Mediterranean Partnership Studies trains professionals as staff in international organisations, public administrations, economic enterprises and non-governmental associations working in Mediterranean countries.
The course will provide students with:
an accurate background in the key actors, processes and ideas of the Mediterranean region;
the skills to analyse and solve Mediterranean current problems.
The course provides education in three thematic areas corresponding to the three chapters of the Barcelona Declaration:
Politics
International and Mediterranean Politics
European Union and Mediterranean International Organisations
European and Mediterranean Political Regimes
Economics
Euro-Mediterranean Economic Relations and Trade
Finance, investments and Euro-Mediterranean Co-operation
WTO and International Law of Trade
Environment, Energy and Technology Policies of the
Mediterranean countries
Society, Culture and Human Affairs
Civilisation and Identities of the Mediterranean Area
Social Policies and Euro-Mediterranean Co-operation
Culture, Communication and Education Policies
Human Rights and the Mediterranean
The course is on a full-time basis over a period of one year. The course is multidisciplinary and consists of lectures and teacher-students contact (550 hours) and a work placement period (150 hours) at a public administration, an international organisation, an economic firm or a scientific institution.
The working languages of the Masters are English and French.
Teaching methods consist of lectures, group tutorial discussions, seminars, paper reporting and workshops.
Assessment is on the basis of coursework and paper evaluation. In order to obtain the Masters, students are required to complete a 15,000 word final dissertation satisfactorily.
The Masters is addressed to graduate students in socio-political, juridical and economical areas. Graduates in other fields, who can demonstrate relevant skills in the core subjects of the Course are also welcomed.
15 students per year are admitted to the Course.
