3 year degree course in Science of the Social Services (planned
number) Formative aims and professional prospects
Lasting three years and with compulsory attendance of 70% of the classes,
the course is directed towards acquiring the theoretical and practical
abilities necessary for the profession of Social Worker. This course is
characterised by a constant correlation with the world of employment which
is composed of intense training periods under professional supervision both
in public and private organisations which have an agreement with the
University and in which the professional social services have been working
for years with stabilised, shared methods and procedures.
As well as the general education subjects (law, history, languages,
sociology, psychology) the course offers the knowledge of technical,
methodological subjects specifically directed at the formulation of the
essential operational tools of the profession and at the knowledge of the
different organisational and institutional social realities, where the
social services are carried out.
This degree gives admission to the Professional Order of Social Workers,
section B (social workers), access to the specialised degree Course in
Programming and management of the Politics of the Social Services(which
gives membership of section A of the Register, specialist social workers),
and also entry to the Master’s degree in social Politics and Mediterranean
culture.
The social worker is a professional figure who intervenes in contexts
characterised by social relations subject to conditions of risk and
uncertainty.
With well-established methods of intervention and specifically oriented
theoretical knowledge, s/he identifies, supports and develops the
possibilities for change that such contexts elaborate, supplying the
individuals, families, and social groups involved with information,
knowledge and instruments of guidance aimed at their autonomous growth.
S/he is a professional whose activity requires abilities directed towards
reading and interpreting living conditions in which conditions of
intolerable risk develop, and the demands for intervention that such
conditions reveal. An ability to read and interpret aimed at taking
responsibility for individuals or family groups, activating services and
integrating them, together with other resources from that context, so as to
construct and consolidate a support network to accompany and sustain the
promotion process of these people and render them autonomous.
Thus the social worker is a professional figure specialised in planning,
running, verifying and evaluating activities which consist in these support
processes for individuals, both in the public and the private sectors.

Historical and Political Science
Formative aims and professional prospects The degree course in
Historical and Political Science has the objective of forming graduates
qualified with knowledge and skills particularly suited to interpreting the
political reality of contemporary society, and to work, in its complex
configurations, in different sectors of political and administrative
management and of production.
The instruments that this degree course is able to provide are based on the

validity in a short time.
Graduates have to:
-acquire a basic training aimed at investigation and historical
interpretation of the political and social processes
of the contemporary world.
-learn the general ideas of the history of humanity, with particular
reference to modern and contemporary history, the essential elements of the
methodology of historical research, the analysis and use of documentary
sources;
to be able to use efficiently, in both its written and oral forms, at least
one modern language of the
European Union, apart from Italian.
Graduates from this degree course will be capable of carrying out
professional work both in the public and the private sector, in cultural,
political and social services, in the revival of local activities,
traditions and identity, and in every kind of cultural institution. They
will also be capable of using modern computer communication technology.
